About
Estovers Editions is a curatorial initiative presenting the work of artists undertaking time-based, collaborative, ephemeral, and post-conceptual work. In general, the works we present are available in limited editions of varying kinds.
Estovers Editions is based in the city of Berlin, Germany. The artists that we work with are likewise generally associated or affiliated with the city of Berlin in various ways—either through living or working here, or else through having a connection or kinship to the city despite being elsewhere in the world, or having fled the city in disgust. It varies.
The word ‘estovers’ is a medieval legal term, first occurring in English law. The word itself, however, is originally French, derived from the substantive verb estovoir—“that which is necessary.”
Most commonly, this term was used to specify an allowance of wood that a tenant or landless peasant was allowed to gather from the commons, for the sustenance of their basic needs.
We aim to help artists gather wood.
The works that are available through Estovers Editions are generally made available in accordance with the provisions of the Artist’s Reserved Rights Transfer and Sale Agreement, except where otherwise noted. The specifics of each work and how the ARRTSA applies to it are available upon request.
